Autoblock – Semi Auto Safety Flag‎

23‎ ‎February‎ ‎2019 | Product Reviews

In a previous post, you will have noted that Gramps had recently bought a 20bore semi-auto Beretta. I am really enjoying shooting this gun, however they have one drawback! You can’t immediately prove that the gun is safe to those around you by having it broken in half in the way you would a Over and Under shotgun.

To prove this, you must use a safety flag, there are many available and I have purchased a couple. The worst being the Napier variety which broke before it got anywhere near the gun. It is very cheaply made and it tells.

I recently bought a safety flag from AutoBlock UK, which are designed and manufactured in the UK. This is by the far the best I have used, its manufacture and design is far superior. The body of the flag is machined from aerospace grade aluminium and the flag is made from a durable coated canvas. The flag is attached to the body with two studs which allows the flag to spin on the body but is not too loose.

I have used this in Gramps’s Beretta and my Mossberg 500 pump, it worked well with both. Just the right length to fit through the loading aperture and easy to place in the chamber. When trying this in my Mossberg I found that when placed in the chamber that the friction of the bolt was enough force to hold it in place. I tried to dislodge the AutoBlock by shaking the gun but it held in place. I would not worry about it falling out whilst walking round with the gun slung on my shoulder.

I spoke to James the designer at length on the phone and he is a great guy who has put a lot of thought in to this product and it shows. I will soon be buying a 12ga semi-auto for wild fowling and will be sure to purchase an AutoBlock in 12ga at the same time.
